Landmark Ban Asbestos Conference in China

Nearly two years of discussions, planning and organization came to fruition when the Asian Asbestos Conference 2009 (AAC) took place in Hong Kong from April 25-28, 2009.

China Recalls Hillary Clinton's Asbestos Pantsuit

Chinese authorities today announced a sweeping recall of garments manufactured with asbestos, including the pantsuit worn by Sen. Hillary Clinton during last night’s Democrat presidential debate.

Sen. Clinton’s trousers were marketed mostly through retailers in the Washington D.C. region, and made from “a political-grade fabric that provides protection from spontaneous combustion, thus avoiding the embarrassment of ‘pants on fire’.”

Asbestos turns up in toys, children's clay

Asbestos has been found in a variety of consumer products, including one of this season's biggest-selling Christmas toys, according to the nation's largest asbestos victims organizations.

The CSI Fingerprint Examination Kit, two brands of children's play clay, powdered cleanser, roof sealers, duct tapes, window glazing, spackling paste and small appliances were among the products in which asbestos was found by at least two of three labs hired by the Asbestos Disease Awareness Organization.

More Asbestos Toys from China Arrive Down Under

There are those who now say that “Made in China” is actually a warning label.

Pulmonary function in long-term asbestos workers in China

The relationship of pulmonary function to exposure to asbestos and radiographic abnormalities has been controversial, especially when smoking is present as a confounder. The aim of the study was to provide further understanding on the radiographic-physiologic associations in nonsmoking and smoking asbestos workers. Radiographic asbestosis, pleural lesion, and pulmonary function were studied in 269 Chinese asbestos workers, with average exposure years of 23 for male workers and 18 for female workers. Their functional data were compared with those of 274 controls without exposure to dust.

China Continues Heavy Use of Asbestos

(IPS) BEIJING -- While most of the world is trying to avoid using asbestos, China not only continues to use and produce huge amounts of the harmful mineral but imports it to meet industrial needs.

After decades of heavy reliance on asbestos, Chinese officials are only now starting to realize the extent of the health dangers it poses to producers, processors and the public that uses products using the material for insulation.

Lung Cancer cause

While lung cancer is often thought of as a smoker’s disease, smoking is not its only cause. There are a number of risks that may cause lung cancer, among those being age, smoking, and exposure to asbestos, radon or chemical agents such as Agent Orange or depleted uranium (DU).

Lung Cancer Diagnose

As the leading cause of cancer death in the United States, being diagnosed with lung cancer can seem overwhelming. This is especially true for those diagnosed with asbestos-induced lung cancer, as their exposure likely occurred decades before symptoms began to arise.Though the symptoms of lung cancer can vary depending on the type and location of the cancer, the diagnostic tools and procedures involved are essentially the same.

Six Types of Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer Treatment

  • Surgery - A total of four different types of surgery are used in the treatment of non-small cell lung cancer: wedge resection, lobectomy, pneumoectomy, and sleeve resection.

Three Types of Small Cell Lung Cancer Treatment

  • Surgery - This treatment is only available to patients with cancer in one lung and nearby lymph nodes. Unfortunately, since small cell lung cancer is typically found in both lungs, surgery is not commonly used. Laser therapy, which involves the application of a narrow beam of light that kills cancer cells, may be used during surgery.
